Traveling between her studio in San Francisco and the wilderness of Northern California, artist Heather Day explores her connection to nature in her creative practice. "Sometimes I think if I can make a mark fast enough, I can emulate that current I saw in a river", says Day, who works to synthesize her impressions of nature onto the painting surface. Water acts as a muse for the artist, though none of her work is directly representational of the subject. The work featured in the video is part of a 2017 solo exhibition in San Francisco.
Heather Day was born in 1989 in Honolulu, Hawaii. In 2012, she graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) with her BFA. Her work is included in both national and international collections, including Facebook Inc., Warner Brothers Inc., The Ritz-Carlton and Snapchat Inc. She keeps a visual journal of her practice through her popular Instagram channel.
